A Brief History of Titanium

A Brief History of Titanium

The metal was first discovered in 1791 by scientist and chemist William Gregor. Four years later, however, Berlin chemist Martin Martin Heinrich Klaproth took this discovery further and isolated titanium dioxide. This is from the legend of the child of Ouranos in Greek mythology and the Greek god Titan, which inspired it to name the metal.

This is an interesting story about the Titans, who, according to mythology, were completely despised by their fathers and imprisoned in the earth's crust, just like titanium ore today. It took another hundred years to isolate the metal. The main alloys, and today's preferred Ti-6Al-4V, were only developed in the late 1940s. Today's wide variety of metal alloys has paved the way for the dramatic expansion of lightweight metals into a variety of industrial applications.

Titanium and its alloys stand out mainly because of their high specific strength and impressive corrosion resistance, only 0.5 of that of steel and nickel-based superalloys, which explains their early success in the parts and chemical industries , but in the design, chemical and other alternative markets, metal processing, medicine, power generation, marine and offshore, sports and leisure, transportation and other fields are more and more widely used.

Originating in the steel industry, Beigang has become a leader in titanium production and supply in recent years. Our wide range of titanium products in sheet and tube can meet the needs of different alloys. We manufacture to the specifications you want.
